Wilderness First Aid: Sling and Swath

Posted on

Robert Green and Chris Van Loan working as Bay Area Expeditions demonstrating the sling and swath for Wilderness First Aid training.

The Sling and Swath is meant to immobilize an injured arm or shoulder to prevent further injury. Materials can be improvised, but triangular bandages, or ‘cravats’ are inexpensive, light and packed small and durably in the USGI packaging. They are also used for multi purpose bandaging and splinting purposes. I cary four in my first aid kit, along with medical tape.

This is meant as training information only. I recommend you take a Wilderness First Aid, Wilderness Responder, or Wilderness EMT course from a reputable provider and get certified.
